Last season, Eintracht Frankfurt attacking midfielder Mario Gotze (31) received a total of 10 yellow cards, most of which were yellow cards shown for complaining about refereeing decisions.

And this season, the former World Cup winner with Bayern and Dortmund had already received his first warning in the 1-1 draw with Bochum after being upset that Paslak’s foul was not called.

Frankfurt’s former coach Oliver Glasner was upset that Gotze kept getting cards for complaining a lot and publicly criticized him, but his successor had no problem with that.

Dino Topmüller smiled before the Bundesliga opener against Darmstadt and said that he thought that Gotze could have scored more goals on the pitch than the number of yellow cards he received as opposed to eating cards. That basically meant that Topp Muller then gave him license to complain endlessly.

When asked about the problems that occurred against Bochum, Topmüller told Picture Post, “I will definitely protect him, what we want is for the player to show emotion. I think he did a great job in this game!

He did it for the team and showed a reaction that I can understand. I would never criticize him in that situation. Of course it would be difficult if he got a yellow card every game, that’s impossible. But if he doesn’t have any emotions at all, it shows that he doesn’t care about winning or losing.”
